About Me

Greetings!

Born and raised in Portage, Michigan, art has always been an important part of my life. I started drawing, painting, and ceramics at a young age. Currently, I am a student at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan where I am pursuing my BFA. I am coupling this degree with a minor in Community Action and Social Change through the School of Social Work.

The bulk of my work takes two main forms: conceptual art and printmaking. As a printmaker, I have been trained in many print processes. Alongside my practice in traditional printmaking processes, I am also a letterpress artist and new wood engraver. My background in printmaking consists of three consecutive Summer internships at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center, several printmaking courses at the University of Michigan, and an ongoing apprenticeship with Jim Horton, master printer and wood engraver. I also currently work as a studio assistant at a The Letterpress/ Book Arts Studio in the Duderstadt at the University of Michigan. Through my experience in book arts, I have also been introduced to paper making, which has in turn fueled an interest in fibers.

While my printmaking is generally more technical, my other work is more conceptually based. In this practice, I specifically look at the potentials of trash and plastic waste to hold energy. The energy I am interested in has many names such as life force, ether, aura, etc. This research especially is influenced by sustainability and spirituality/religion.

I have many interests outside of my main practice, one of which is music. I play the Euphonium and have been a member of the Michigan Marching Band as well as the Michigan Hockey Band. My next goal is to learn to play the viola.
